 Credit Bureaus
There are three thousands of credit bureaus across the country. Most of the
credit bureaus work as affiliates of the 3 major credit reporting agencies:
Experian, Equifax and Trans Union. Credit bureaus can be described as "warehouses"
that keep your credit information and then distribute it whenever a request
has been made. The credit bureaus assemble your credit information into an easy
to read packet. For example, anytime a lender requests your information from
a credit bureau the lender can automatically see your credit history. Credit
bureaus handle almost one billion credit report requests a year.
Some of the credit bureaus provide a credit score to within the credit report.
If you request a loan from a lender, that lender is very likely to pull your
credit information from certain credit bureaus. Credit bureaus provide your
credit information and sometimes a score telling the lender about your credit.
The lender then decides whether or not to grant you credit based on the information
received from the credit bureaus.
Credit bureaus can help in serving as a liaison between you and the credit
reporting agency. There are credit bureaus in your region specifically assigned
to your credit report. Credit bureaus can only help you if you know what is
on your credit report. We recommend that your get your credit report and address
the credit bureaus you feel can help you.
